Dr. McGuire’s research examines Irish-American political cartoons from the late 1800s and the ways in which they contributed to the creation of a transnational Irish identity. In addition to her work on images of the Irish and Irish-Americans, Dr. McGuire also teaches courses on the theory and methodology of public history, and gained practical experience in this field at the University of Redlands Archive in Redlands, California and the historic home of Herbert H. Dow, founder of the Dow Chemical Company, in Midland, Michigan.
