University of Mississippi history graduate student Travis Jaquess, whose research focuses on fatherhood in colonial America, recently tied for first place in the university-wide Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition. This competition celebrates the exciting research conducted by masters and doctoral students. Developed by the University of Queensland and promoted by graduate schools around the world, the exercise cultivates students’ academic, presentation, and research communication skills. The competition challenges graduate students to explain their research thesis/dissertation topic and its significance in three minutes using one PowerPoint slide and language appropriate to a nonspecialist audience, a critical skill for graduate students across all academic disciplines.
